The ship was grey; the walls were white; the floors, charcoal; etc. These purple pipes were incongruous, at best.

Walls are called bulkheads.  Floors are decks.  Purple pipes handle diesel fuel, usually JP-5.  the content and flow direction is labeled on every pipe.

I knew someone here would explain!  Thanks.  :-)
(EDIT: Upon closer inspection, the bigger pipe is indeed stencilled with “JP5 - TRANSFER.  The more you know!)
